Michael J. Abrams, Ph.D.
Dr. Abrams has been active in the research, discovery and development of pharmaceuticals for over 25 years. In June 1996 Dr. Abrams initiated the Canadian venture-backed financing of AnorMED Inc. AnorMED, which was acquired by Genzyme in 2006 for $580M. Dr. Abrams served as President, CEO and director of AnorMED Inc. until May 2006 and currently serves as a director of Tekmira, the Centre for Drug and Research Development and Indel Therapeutics. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
Robert Handin, M.D.
Dr. Handin is the Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Co-Director of the Hematology Division at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, as well as Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Handin is a leading expert in the field of platelet function and coagulation. He is the editor of a leading textbook of Hematology and President of the American Society of Hematology.
David Dale, M.D.
Dr Dale is Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. He is an expert on neutropenia and growth factors. He was President of the American College of Physicians from 2007-2008 and is Editor-in-Chief of ACP Medicine/Scientific American Medicine.
John Adamson, M.D.
Dr. Adamson is Professor of Medicine at University of California San Diego, and Associate Director of the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program. Dr. Adamson’s long-time interests have been in the regulation of red cell production, and particularly the role of erythropoietin in that process. He helped organize the original clinical trials of recombinant human erythropoietin in treating the anemia of patients with chronic kidney disease and participated in the application of erythropoietin therapy to the other anemias, including chemotherapy-induced anemia in cancer patients.

Emil D. Kakkis has been an Advisor of BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. since March 2009. Dr. Kakkis served as Chief Medical Officer of BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. from January 2006 to February 2009 and also served as its Senior Vice President.
